Gold and silver are very precious metals. They are used to make coins, watches, chains, and many other things.
Steel, a very useful metal, is used to make knives, scissors, razors, needles, and all instruments used for eutting or filing.
Iron is the most useful of all metals; it is needed in almost every trade; with iron we make machines, railways, bridges, tramlines, and hundreds of other things, too numerous to name.
With marble and stone we can; make many beautiful things; statues, fountains, staircases etc.
Lead is a soft metal, and can be made to assume any shape; it is used to make water-pipes and cisterns, and sometimes, to cover houses and churches.
Wood is used to make furniture, houses, carts, lorries, trains, fences, boxes, cases, trunks etc.
With glass we make a number of things; inkstands, glasses, vases, bottles, jugs etc.
Leather is used in the manufacture of boots, shoes, belts, bags, saddles, and harness.
Silk, wool, cotton, velvet, linen and are used for dresses.
Felt is used to make hats, slippers, toys, coshions, and many faney articles.
Straw is used to make heis, matting, mattresses, seats of chairs, casks etc.
China is used to make eups and saucers, plates and dishes, dolls, ornaments, ash-trays, inkstands, pin-travs, vases and many pretty articles suitable for presents.
