EXPANDING YOUR VOCABULARY

LESSON 12

To-day is market day; let us go to see the market. The stalls are all along the street on both sides; and in the middie of the road, there are many people carrying bags, and baskets.

How fresh the vegetables are! And they are much cheaper than at the greengrocer's. There are always plenty to choose from, which is not always possible at the greengrocer's, as he usually buys a limited quantity.

The atalls of the fishmonges are together, at the beginning of the market; the dry goods are on side, and the vegetables and fruits on the other.

The customers bargain with the costers, haggling over the prites; and when they are turning sway, without buying anything, the men call them back, and sell the goods at any price, rathet than carry them house again, as some of them live very far.

People that have big families, and those who keep boarding-houses, get much profit by buying at the markets; because there, they can buy fresh vegetables, fruits, eggs, and chickens, at very reasonable prices.
