LESSON 07 

The drawing-room is a room set spart to receive visitors and friends.
The furniture generally consists of a sofa, a couple of armchairs, some common chairs, a piano and a piano-stool, some smail tables, one or two pedestals with bronze or marble statues, and some pretty ornaments.
The walls are adorned with oil-paintings or tapestries, and a mirror. A fine carpet covers the floor. Beautilful curtains adorn the windows; light ones in the middle, and at each side heavy ones, to he drawn on cold evenings.
When people give a party, there is usually dancing; then the furniture is arranged against the wall, or removed to another room, so as to leave the middle of the room free, for the couples that wish to dance.
A well-illuminated drawing-room, with several couples daneing, to the strains of a good orchestra, is a very pleasing sight.
