The kitchen is the meals are prepared. In the middig of the kitchen there is a deal, and two stools. The table has one or two drawers, where the cook keeps the kitchen-cloths, wooden-spoons etc.

The stools are for the aervants to sit on al their meals.
Againat the wall there is a gas stove or a range; nowadays, nearly all the houses have gas stoves; they are much cleaner, and give less work than the ranges, but they are also more expensive.
The cook washes the plates and dishes in the sink, which has one or two taps. The crockery is kept in the cupboard.
The saucepans, clean and shining, are ranged on shelves; the fryingpans are hung on nails; the vegetables are kept in the ice-chest.
The modern flats have very amall kitchens; many have a kitchenette with a sink, a small cupborard under it, and a gas ring or two on the slab of the sink, where a person can prepared small meals.
Outside the kitchen-door, there is the dusthin or shoot, where the dust and refuse from the vegetables are put.
The kitchen should be kept always very clean, and free from flies, mice, and cockroaches, which are very harmful.
