ENGLISH: EXPANDING YOUR VOCABULARY

LESSON 01

In the school-room I see many objects. On an easel, I see the blackboard, with the chalk, the sponge and the duster. I also see many desks. Each desk has two places.
On the teacher’s table I see an exercise-book, blotting-paper, a pen, an inkstand, a bell and a ruler.
The pupils sit on benches at their desks; each pupil brings his books, pen, ruler, pencil, rubber etc. , in his school-bag.
On the walls there are maps and pictures.
Pupils study many subjects; -- they study History, Geography, Languages, and they learn Drawing, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.
Pupils go to school to learn; the teachers are there to teach them; the teachers give orders, which the pupils obey.
Here are some orders:
-- Open your books. Begin. Read. Repeat the word. Take your pens. Write. Silence. Be quiet. Attention. Look. Look at me. Come here. Go to the blackboard. Take the chalk. Write your name. Put back the chalk. Shut your books. Put away your things.

Comece. Leia. Repita a palavra. Pegue suas canetas. Escreva. Silêncio. Fique quieto. Atenção. Olhe. Olhe para mim. Venha aqui. Vá ao quadro negro. Escreva seu nome. Guarde o giz. Feche seus livros. Guarde suas coisas.
