LESSON 06 

A friend of mine has just a good house built. It is a large house, as his family is large. Last week he moved in, and he invited me to a party, which he gave to a few very intimate friends.
The house is very fine, it is built of stone; it stands in a nice garden near the beach. As the garden is very large, the house is not affected by the high buildings on each side, which are composed of flats.
The house has two storeys; on the ground floor, there is an entrance hall, cool and shady, the drawing-room, by an arch, a pantry, a larder, and a spacious kitechen.
A wide staircase leads up to the first floor; the window on the stairs is of stained glass.
On the landing there are a sofa, a couple of armchairs, and a small table, with reviews, newspapers etc.
There are three good bedrooms, the nursery, the library, and a bath-room fitted with all the most modern appliances.
At the back of the house, there is a chicken-run, the drying-ground, the servants rooms, bath-room etc.
There is a garage which holds two cars, and above it, there are two good rooms, one is for the chauffeur, and the other is for the gardener.
The house is fitted with all electric appliances; two telephones, electric bells in every room, and a good wireless.
